FORMER Celtic star Josip Juranovic showed Hoops fans what they are missing as he provided an assist for Union Berlin’s winning goal on his debut.

The Croatian World Cup star clinched his move from the Scottish champions last week after failing to agree terms on a new deal with the Hoops.

Urs Fischer celebrates after another big win for the unlikely title chasers
Josip Juranovic has made a fast start at his new club

It represented a decent mark-up on a player who cost the Hoops just £2.5million when he arrived from Legia Warsaw in August 2021.

Juranovic was straight into action for his new side as they visited Werder Bremen.

He played the full match in a right wing back role, as the visitors went one down to Amos Pieper in just 13 minutes.

But Janik Heberer equalised just four minutes later.

Then Kevin Behrens headed in what proved to be the winner from Josip Juranovic’s pinpoint corner.

It moved Urs Fischer’s men just THREE points behind leaders Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga table.

It’s been a great start to the campaign for the capital side, who hold a slender lead over RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund.

And next up for Juranovic is the Berlin DERBY against Hertha this weekend.

It’s a great start for a man who has long dreamed of playing in one of Europe’s big leagues.

Chelsea and Barcelona scouted Juranovic during Croatia’s World Cup campaign but it was Union Berlin who agreed a fee with the Hoops and got a deal done.

The right-back said: “The transfer to Union fulfils my dream of being able to play in one of the best football leagues in the world.

“The Bundesliga is intense and robust, which suits my game.

“I’m looking forward to playing in front of the fans at the Alte Försterei soon.

“In Berlin, I want to improve even more and take the next step in my career.”
