RYAN PORTEOUS is on his way to Watford for talks after Hibs accepted the Hornets’ bid of around £500,000.

But the 23-year-old may yet hold off signing to play one more game against Aberdeen this weekend.

The Scotland defender is out of contract in the summer and has been the subject of interest from several clubs.

But the idea of working under boss Slaven Bilic – a top centre-half in his day – appeals to Porteous.

And that has seen them move ahead of others in the race to land him this month.

Hibs, though, have a defensive crisis ahead of their crunch clash with the Dons.

Porteous, a die-hard Hibee, is sympathetic to the situation boss Lee Johnson finds himself in.

And should Watford give their blessing he could yet agree to play one last game before moving to the Championship club at the beginning of next week.

The defender hoped to round off his Easter Road career in style with his first Edinburgh derby win at the weekend, but Hearts won the Scottish Cup clash 3-0.

Speaking ahead of that match, he said: “I model myself on coming in every day to be a top professional. I’ve found it pretty easy to concentrate on my football and let it do the talking.

“It’s one of the biggest games of the season tomorrow and that’s where my head is at.

“These are big games for the club, I’m contracted to the club and I feel I’m an important player for the team. I’m here, ready if selected and I’ll give everything.

“No matter when your last game is you want to win it. If it was Hearts it would be a little more special but we want to go through no matter who we are playing.

“The people I have around me are good and know how to manage me well. I switch myself off from social media and I don’t read it which has helped me massively.

“The conversations I need to know are done early in the week. Other than that its just concentration on football.”

Kevin Nisbet is also on his way to the Championship with Millwall in talks with the Easter Road striker.

And a £2million deal which could rise to £2.4million is expected to be completed over the coming days.
