Rampant Rashford broke the deadlock a mere six minutes into the tie with a near-post finish inside the box after a mazy run from the left wing.

Winter signing Weghorst doubled the visitors’ lead just before the stroke of half time by latching on to a saved shot from Antony.

And Bruno Fernandes put the icing on the cake in the final minute of normal time.

United dominated the Premier League strugglers for the remainder of the match but failed to add to their lead.

Forest will hope to pull off an almighty miracle in the second leg at Old Trafford next Wednesday.
