It is not known whether residents had been evacuated.

An eyewitness at the scene said she noticed a small fire in the distance before it suddenly turned into something resembling fireworks.

They said: “I was looking up the hill… and then I saw this small fire and said ‘aw there’s a wee fire’ and then next thing I know it was like fireworks.

“It was scary.”

Scottish Power was approached for comment.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 7.55pm on Thursday, 22 September, 2022, police attended Culzean Avenue in Coatbridge, to assist Scottish Fire and Rescue at the scene of a fire.”
