A YOUNG schoolgirl has been rushed to hospital after being hit by a car outside of a school this afternoon.

Emergency services raced to the scene on Saltcoats Road in the Stevenston area of North Ayrshire at around 12.40pm today.

Officers also scrambled to the area after receiving reports of the crash outside Auchenharvie Academy.

Cops have confirmed that a 12-year-old girl was involved in the crash with a car.

She was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow by ambulance for treatment.

The extent of her injuries is currently unknown.

Her condition is also currently unknown.

Police have launched a probe into the crash the established the full circumstances of what happened.

They have urged anyone who may have seen something, or anyone who may know something, to come forward and speak with officers.

They are particularly keen to speak with anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area at the time of the crash.


Sergeant Gordon Stewart of the Road Policing Unit at Irvine said: “Around 12.40pm on Friday, 23 September, police were called to a report of a crash involving a car and a pedestrian on Saltcoats Road, Stevenston.

“Officers attended and a 12-year-old girl was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

“Police enquiries are continuing and any witnesses or any drivers with dash-cam footage are asked to contact us.

“Anyone with information that may assist should contact 101 with reference 1423 of 23 September.”
