Can you use AirPods on a plane?

The good news is you can use AirPods on a plane.

Just like using any other wireless headphones the Federal Aviation Administration have decided to allow using bluetooth accessories, such as AirPods on planes.

So, whether your tuning in to watch a pre-downloaded film, playing your favourite musical playlist or simply just play a game, you can sit back, relax and listen with your AirPods.

All you have to do is simply reenable Bluetooth to connect your AirPods.

However, the Federal Aviation Administration don’t allow using cellular data, so in order to use your AirPods – you must ensure your mobile or electronic device is placed on airplane mode for the duration of your flight.

Most airlines will recommend that you not use AirPods or any other electronics during take off and landing.

The easiest option for passengers travelling on a plane is to use bluetooth or wireless headphones.

If you prefer to use headphones that require connection, then the good news is planes have universal headphone jacks that work with any headphones.

However, most airplanes use 2.5mm jacks which are relatively smaller and therefore require you to use an adapter, as most audio devices use a 3.5mm jack. 

Can I use my phone on a plane to listen to music?

If you’re not a regular jet-setter, then you may be unsure on the rules regarding using your phone whilst on a plane.

Until a few years ago, passengers were asked to keep their mobile phone switched off during a flight.

But airline rules are different now and they’re constantly changing – and so are the dos and don’ts on mobile phones and airplanes.

However, to date phone use is allowed on planes if you put your device on airplane mode.

This means passengers are free to listen to music on their phone – provided that the cellular connection of the device isn’t being used.
